蚕養神社の峰張桜

会津若松市内の古三社の一つ、蚕養国神社の境内にある御神木で樹齢900年以上の老樹。

苔むした幹は途中で折れ、主幹は既に朽ち、皮のみで生きている様な、そんな桜です。



5mを超す立派な幹から伸びたわずかな枝から、小さい白色の花を可憐に咲かせていました。

桜の前にたててある看板に「会津五桜の一」と書いてありますが、昔は五桜に数えられていたのでしょうか。
